Becky’s Story

“Staff were brilliant and so supportive, they helped me so much and were amazing with my children. I cannot thank you all enough for all the support you have given me and my children.”

Becky had been separated from her abusive partner for 2 years and contacted WAL as she was frightened he had managed to find her again. She had previously experienced physical and emotional abuse and was harassed and stalked after she ended the relationship. Her family had encouraged her to stay with her partner but she was fearful for the safety of herself and her children. When she contacted WAL she was isolated, depressed and having suicidal thoughts.

How did we support Becky?

  • Listened to Becky and took her fears seriously
  • Provided safe accommodation in refuge for Becky and her children
  • Supported her to access benefits and open her own bank account
  • Provided emotional support for Becky in one-to-one support sessions and group activities
  • Supported Becky’s children with therapeutic play sessions
  • Supported Becky to apply for a new home for her and her children
  • Provided ongoing support once Becky was living independently

Becky is now living independently with her children. She has a new partner and is beginning to heal from her past experiences.
