June 2021 – New Children’s Handbook launched

We are delighted that a new Children’s Handbook has been designed for children staying in our refuges. The handbook has been created with the input of children who have stayed in emergency accommodation at Women’s Aid in Luton, who have made suggestions about the information and activities they’d like to see. The handbook provides guidance about what children can expect during their stay, handy tips as well as activity pages to help distract and entertain them. Here at Women’s Aid in Luton we recognise the difficulties children and young people face when arriving at refuge, most have had to leave their home and personal possessions behind. This is in addition to coping with stressful and difficult experiences. These handbooks will help to provide children with a space to learn about life in refuge. This is just one part of the specialist support we provide to children and young people in our care, alongside the support given by our trained children’s support workers. These handbooks have been funded by Bedfordshire VERU, who we thank for their generous support.
